John Sullivan began his career as a residential carpenter. “I was working for a big home builder in the Chicago area when the housing market crashed in the fall of 2006. I got very lucky. The union referred me to Custom Contracting, and they hired me. I was in the right place at the right time.”

John has a considerable history of proven experience and career advancement. From apprentice carpenter in 1986, he has moved progressively up the ladder to journeyman carpenter and on to positions of increasing responsibility, including his current position as superintendent at Custom Contracting.

When asked what sets Custom Contracting apart from others in the industry, John responds without hesitation. “We have a solid reputation for doing the right thing. It’s always a collaborative team effort, including the client, to make sure the job is done professionally and correctly. We don't take shortcuts, and we don't leave loose ends. We go out of our way to get everything right the first time.

“We're reliable. When we say we're going be there, we’ll be there, even when there's an emergency on the weekend or the middle of the night. I think that’s one of the many reasons clients hire us in the first place and keep coming back to us again and again.”

Today, John works primarily with clients in the healthcare industry, often in “occupied” healthcare environments, where patient care must be delivered continuously during construction. “We’re always very careful not to do anything that disrupts patients or their care providers,” John says. “Our aim is to always leave the site cleaner and more efficient than it was when we walked in. Our clients tell us we’re good at doing that.”
